After the death of the father, the Carey family move from Boston to the New England countryside. Teenager Nancy Carey (Hayley Mills) writes to Mr. Poppem (Burl Ives) and persuades him to rent the family a run-down, house for a mere $60 a year. The owner of the property knows nothing about the rental agreement and was in for a shock on his return to the property.

OK for family viewing in front of the TV on a lazy Sunday afternoon. Nice songs. Very Disney with everyone being so nice, with the exception of Nancy and Julia, but they become the best of friends by the end. Very 'nice' film but nothing stands out in it.
